An Ino-Tek Hazardous Material Emergency Alarm System detected a dangerous refrigerant leak at the Munn Ice Arena on the campus of Michigan State University yesterday preventing serious injury to the building’s occupants.
According to the Lansing State Journal:
“Six employees were in the arena when a monitoring system detected an ammonia leak about 1:10 p.m., the university said in a news release. The system triggered an alarm and automatically turned on exhaust fans, the release said. Ammonia is used make and cool the ice.
The employees were safely evacuated, officials said. The leak was traced to a valve on an indicator gauge, and repairs were underway…”
